Leave Request Page & Leave Overview

The Leave Request related pages can be found under the Staff menu on the sidebar navigation menu.

All employee leave requests are expected to be requested by using TIMS.  The previous Leave Request form is no longer to be used.

The information below provides detail on common types of leave and allocations staff are entitled to each year for the different types of leave (this information can also be found in your employment agreement).

Please review your employment agreement for more details on these leave types and any other types of leave available i.e. Parental leave or contact HR.

Note: Part-time, casual and fixed-term staff members please refer to your employment contract for information on your specific leave entitlements.

Annual Holidays/Leave - You are entitled to four weeks annual leave  plus public holidays (11 days) upon the completion of each year of employment with us, available to be taken after three months continuous employment with us (unless agreed it can be taken earlier).  All annual leave requests must be approved by your manager and it is appreciated that we receive these leave requests with as much advance warning as possible.  

Annual Closedown - Every year we have an annual close down at Christmas time which usually requires between 5 -10 annual leave days to be taken by you.  We try to communicate these dates as early as possible.  Four public holidays also fall within the Christmas closedown dates every year.

Sick Leave - After 6 months of current continuous employment with us you are entitled to five days of sick leave for each subsequent 12-month period of service. Sick leave can be taken where you are sick or injured or where your spouse or partner or a person who is dependent on you is sick or injured.  

Sick leave entitlements can be accumulated from year to year up to a maximum entitlement of 20 days.

A medical certificate is required in the event you have taken sick leave and been absent from work for at least three consecutive calendar days - this is to prove sickness or injury and must be provided at your cost. Please email your Medical Certificate to your manager if creating a leave request for more than three consecutive sick days in a row.

Sick leave is to be recorded in your timesheet upon returning to work, or if you know in advance (eg, surgery) you may request sick leave approval via the TIMS leave process.

Bereavement Leave - After 6 month's continuous employment you are entitled up to three days bereavement leave in relation to the death of your parent, grandparent, sibling, child, grandchild, spouse, or parent of your spouse. 

You are entitled to one day paid bereavement leave if we consider you have suffered a bereavement through the death of another person.

Unpaid Leave - Applications for unpaid leave will be given reasonable consideration by us, but shall be granted only at our sole discretion having regard to the requirements of our business and operations.  Applications for unpaid leave will be considered in situations such as for compassionate reasons; to undertake a course of work-related study, or to gain additional work-related experience.  Annual leave requests of staff members within teams will take precedence over Unpaid Leave requests, managers will take this into account when reviewing leave requests.

Annual Leave, Bereavement Leave (where possible), Unpaid Leave and Study Leave are all to be requested through the TIMS leave process in advance of the leave to be taken.

Absence Notification - It is expected you will make every reasonable effort to contact your immediate manager or other designated person before your normal time for commencing work on every day that you will be absent due to sickness or bereavement.  ‘Texting’ is acceptable only after you have first made all reasonable attempts to establish direct contact, and when you need to notify several people. Leave requests will need to be completed for these days retrospectively so that the finance team have all information required for payroll.

Leave Approvals - There is an expectation that all leave approvals will be completed by Managers within 2 working days of the request being made.
